Oil/Water Separation Using Waste-Derived Functional Materials with Special Wetting Behavior

نویسندگان

چکیده

The separation of both emulsified and immiscible oil/water mixtures using materials with special wetting behavior (hydrophobic-oleophilic or hydrophilic-oleophobic switchable wettability) has attracted significant research attention in recent years. Among various behavior, waste material-mediated surfaces have gained more interest because their advantages such as fluorine-free specific surface structural properties, vast availability, flexibility chemical/structural modification to improve the desired properties eco-friendly nature. This review article describes application by materials-based wettable from different resources. preparation method, treatment effect, efficiency mechanism are discussed. Moreover, unresolved issues potential challenges associated all waste-derived been highlighted for future development.

Adaptable bioinspired special wetting surface for multifunctional oil/water separation

Inspired by the multifunctionality of biological surfaces necessary for the survival of an organism in its specific environment, we developed an artificial special wetting nanofur surface which can be adapted to perform different functionalities necessary to efficiently separate oil and water for cleaning accidental oil spills or separating industrial oily wastewater. Initial superhydrophobic n...

Actinide Separation Chemistry in Nuclear Waste Streams and Materials

3 FOREWORD The separation of actinide elements from various waste materials is a significant problem facing developed countries. The issue arises primarily because of the potential long-term hazard of many of the actinides, but is also due to the regulatory requirements associated with actinide waste disposal, which are different from those associated with other radioactive wastes. The differen...

Materials Separation from Waste Liquid Crystal Displays Using Combined Physical Methods

With the liquid crystal displays (LCDs) being widely used in televisions, notebooks, and mobile phones, etc., large quantities of LCDs are entering into their end-of-life stage for treatment. If not treated properly, a loss of resources and undesirable impacts on the environment and human health can occur. In order to treat the waste LCDs in an efficient and environmentally friendly way, a comb...

Biodiesel: A Cost-effective Fuel Using Waste Materials

The main disadvantage of biodiesel is its high price. The price of biodiesel depends on various factors such as the price of oil, methanol, catalyst, and labor. Among dif-ferent economic factors, oil accounts for the largest share of input costs of biodiesel production. In this study, first, suitable heterogeneous catalysts were identified for biodiesel production. Several studies were carried ...

Smart surfaces with switchable superoleophilicity and superoleophobicity in aqueous media: toward controllable oilwater separation

Advanced materials with surfaces that have controllable oil wettability when submerged in aqueous media have great potential for various underwater applications. Here we have developed smart surfaces on commonly used materials, including non-woven textiles and polyurethane sponges, which are able to switch between superoleophilicity and superoleophobicity in aqueous media. The smart surfaces ar...
